The Timonium Optimists look after some older folks, too. The third Saturday of the month is Timonium Optimist Bingo Day at the Cromwell Genesis Eldercare Center.
The facility is located near Loch Raven Blvd. and Joppa Rd. in Baynesville. This afternoon activity is really a bright spot for residents that they look forward to all week.
A few people are needed each time for calling numbers, helping players watch their cards and distributing prizes. Volunteers find the smiles of residents a heartwarming reward. The time commitment is only about two hours. Arrive about 2:00 p.m. to set up for Bingo from 2:30–3:30 p.m. Clean-up takes a few minutes more.
There is a continuing need for donations of prizes. Our club supplies all the prizes for bingo each time. To increase the fun, games are often held open for multiple winners, so we go through prizes pretty fast.
Small items such as personal care products, jewelry, knick-knacks, stuffed animals, etc. are appropriate. Members are asked to bring prize donations to meetings.
Handmade Valentines for Residents
To let the residents at Cromwell Genesis know that they are remembered and cared about, Timonium Club members make handmade Valentine cards for them each year—enough for every resident to receive one. Members are asked to bring their cards, signed from “Your friends in the Timonium Optimist Club,” to the first dinner meeting in February.
Volunteers from the club visit Cromwell Genesis on Valentine’s Day morning to distribute the cards personally.
