Flamingo Flocking
Looking for a unique way to acknowledge a friend’s birthday, anniversary or some other occasion? Or perhaps you just enjoy instigating a good joke!
Arrange for the Timonium Optimists to surprise a friend with a yard full of flamingos (about 20). The bright pink birds are placed in the designated front yard after dark so that the occupants of the house get an unexpected shock when they come outside in the morning. A notice posted with the birds announces that the Optimists have acted at the behest of an anonymous friend.
We ask for a donation of $40 to the Timonium Optimist Foundation to place a flock ($45 to include a mylar balloon and a card signed “Guess Who!”). In the spirit of charity and good fun, we request a donation from the flockee to remove the birds—and relocate them to the home of another person of their choice to be surprised.
All of the recipients of flockings to date have had a good laugh and have appreciated the neighborhood notoriety that a yard full of eye-catching flamingos brings. Many have generously donated more to the Timonium Optimists than the suggested amount.
