The annual Bull & Oyster Roast in January is a collaborative project of five Optimist clubs in the Baltimore metropolitan area. It is one of the Timonium Optimist’s major fundraisers for the support of our youth projects and programs. In conjunction with the roast, we hold a 50/s50 Raffle that in the past has netted the winner around $1,500.
For the past four years, the event has been held at Martin’s West, where it will be held again for 2010.
The January 17, 2009 roast was a stellar event! There were 1,043 people enjoying themselves at the extensive buffet, gaming activities and silent auction, as well as on the dance floor. The winner of the 50/50 drawing took home $1,495.
Besides selling tickets and enjoying the roast, our club contributed a lot of manpower to its success. Timonium volunteers helped with the Liquor and Meat Wheels, the Bingo Cards, 50/50 Raffle and the Money Room. Three of our members worked on the inter-club planning committee and served as treasurer for the entire roast, ticket sales manager and Meat Wheel chairman.
